BALTIMORE - The Mayor’s Office of Employment Development’s Workforce Operations division and the Digital Learning Labs are making great strides in providing resources to the citizens in Southwest Baltimore. Partnering with the Enoch Pratt Library, the Learning Bank, under the auspice of COIL, Inc.(Communities Organized to Improve Life), established a new initiative. “Community Connections” is a resource initiative which provides job readiness skills, employment opportunities, career building services and instruction in Microsoft office applications to Baltimore City residents in the Southwest corridor.

“The Mayor’s Office of Employment Development is continuing to offer the citizens of Southwest Baltimore an array of career building services through our collective effort with our partners,” said Michael Wells, community liaison/supervisor III for the Mayor’s Office of Employment Development. “Customers have a tendency to stay within their community,” observed Wells. “We want to be a wealth of resources and information relative to workforce development in every neighborhood and community throughout Baltimore City.”

The Mayor’s Office of Employment Development is providing instructors for job readiness workshops and basic computer training at the Learning Bank on the first and third Tuesdays of the month from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Customers can also earn a Microsoft certification based upon their individual progress. The Learning Bank is located at 1200 W. Baltimore Street.

City residents can participate in career building workshops including, résumé writing and interviewing skills at the Enoch Pratt Library- Light Street Branch - located at 1251 Light Street on the first and third Wednesdays of the month from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

MOED’s Business Services Division helps area businesses recruit qualified candidates for employment opportunities the third Thursday of the month at the Enoch Pratt Library and the Learning Bank on alternating months.
