What: This summer marks the fourteenth year Baltimore has partnered with Colgate P.O.W.E.R (Preparing Our World through Education and Responsibility) youth employment campaign and Stop Shop Save Food Markets. Baltimore City Mayor Sheila Dixon will be the keynote speaker at this year’s YouthWorks Summer Jobs Campaign kick-off. Hundreds of students and business and community leaders will be on hand for the annual event. Location: City Hall, Curran Room Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. Why: Approximately 5,000 youth ages 14 to 21 will participate in a six-week summer employment experience from June 25 to August 3, 2007. Students will be exposed to a variety of public and private sector settings, including working at city agencies and local non-profit organizations on special community-based projects. Students will work in the private sector at local hotels, restaurants, tourist attractions, health institutions, day care centers, summer camps, retail stores and more. There are two weeks remaining to register for the YouthWorks summer jobs program. This event is being held to encourage employers and other organizations to join Comcast and the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation in supporting YouthWorks through financial contributions, job pledges, and to notify youth that there are still 11 weeks before the start of the program to register for a summer work experience. |
